Lifestyle on the menu as South Bank celebrates regions
12/06/2012
Regional Flavours, South Bank Corporation’s signature food and lifestyle event is back for 2012.
Friendly, festive and fun, Regional Flavours 2012 will bring the country to the city for two days –
10am to 5pm, 21 and 22 July – to celebrate our food connections, the evolution of culinary
traditions and the beautiful ingredients that inspire unending foodie passion.
The event will encourage Queenslanders to lead a more socially conscious lifestyle through food
choices, offering a packed program, inspirational talent – including chefs, gardeners and health
experts – and over 100 providores from 12 of Queensland’s most fertile ‘food-bowl’ regions.
Regional Flavours 2012 will build on the success of last year’s event, which attracted more than
50,000 visitors, through a partnership with Queensland’s brand new 14-day food festival delectable.
South Bank Corporation’s Acting General Manager of Marketing, Roxanne Hopkins, said this year’s
new program and partnership will offer an exciting celebratory experience for South Bank visitors.
“Regional Flavours 2012 is South Bank Corporation’s most successful produced event, which
celebrates and promotes regional Queensland produce, the people who grow it and the creativity of
our state’s chefs,” Ms Hopkins said.
“This year’s inspiring program will also explore other themes such as the culinary contributions of
immigrants in regional Queensland; the family food stories that inspire our state’s passionate chefs
and restaurateurs; and healthy food and lifestyle choices.”
Stallholders from regions such as South Burnett, Far North Queensland, the Granite Belt and Lockyer
Valley will all be represented with products available to sample and purchase on the Little Stanley
lawns at the Parklands, South Bank.
The superb dining precinct of Little Stanley Street will also be highlighted through Kitchen Stories, a
series of narratives, family recipes and memories featuring the multiethnic array of retailers on offer.
Ms Hopkins believes this year’s Regional Flavours event is a prime example of how far South Bank
has come as one of Brisbane’s favourite public places.
“Since Expo ’88 South Bank has continued to evolve to become a vital part of the Brisbane
community.
“Regional Flavours, as an event, is another step in the precinct’s evolution, taking us from Brisbane’s
backyard to a place of inspiration and celebration,” Ms Hopkins said.
