Queen Street Mall is turning 30

On August 9, 2012 the modern day Queen Street Mall will celebrate its third decade of providing Brisbane with a hub for business, food, fashion and fun.
An enterprising location of 4,000 businesses, The City boasts five major retail centres, 1,000 local and international retailers and over 200 thriving restaurants and bars.
The modern day Queen Street Mall was officially opened in 1982 in time for the Commonwealth Games. It was a car free mall created between Edwards and Albert Streets which in 1988 was extended to include the top section of Queen Street (from Albert to George Streets).
Today, The City offers an estimated 26 million visitors a year a discovery in every direction, with recent upgrades and exciting programs adding to its allure.

Further cause for celebration in The City this year is the opening of Phase Two of the $350 million Wintergarden redevelopment, in the Queen Street Mall.
