The winning tenders for the King George Square restaurant and café were announced by Brisbane City Council as part of the square’s official reopening ceremony.

Groove Train and Coffee Hit will move into the square after winning the first 10 year tenancies due largely to the variety and affordability of their food.

Under the arrangement, other companies will be able to obtain separate permits to hold food markets, or take out temporary permits to cater for the many events expected in the square.

As an added offering to the restaurant and cafe, the shady and cool ‘big back deck’ is the perfect place to view the square from on high, and also serves as a raised amphitheatre setting for live performances.

The fifteen trees in King George Square will grow to provide ample shade throughout area and are complimented by Brisbane’s biggest green wall along the back of the square.

The design also includes some old favourite's, including the Speakers Corner statues, Petrie Tableau, King George Statue and the Lions which have all returned to the square.
