'NBN, an Enabling Infrastructure for Driving Innovation and National Productivity'
Keynote Presenters:
Mike Quigley Chief Executive Officer, NCB Co
Dr Alex Zelinsky Group Exeuctive, Information Sciences, CSIRO
The Australian Government’s National Broadband Network (NBN) aims to deliver broadband communications by connecting 100 % of homes, schools and businesses – 93% by fibre, 7% by wireless and satellite.
High speed broadband could bring about transformation at a scale like that which followed the introduction of the electricity grid in 1888, creating business opportunities of considerable economic value. Initially, grid connections provided lighting in streets and, later, homes. The invention of the stove in 1905 ‘sparked’ a century of innovation of new appliances and electricity use unimagined in 1888.
Imagine how Australia will benefit from high speed broadband. It could help overcome the ‘tyranny of distance’ dividing regional and urban Australia and allow all Australians to connect to the global economy and a new range of 21st century services.
