Visitor Information Centres
Whether it’s tour and accommodation bookings, event and entertainment information, brochures and maps, or general tourist advice, the many accredited Visitor Information Centres located across the Greater Brisbane region have it all covered.
The Brisbane Visitor Information and Booking Centre is located in the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane’s central business and shopping precinct.
This accredited Visitor Information and Booking Centre is a one-stop-shop of travel services covering the Brisbane, Moreton Bay and Islands, Scenic Rim and Ipswich and Country Valley areas. Staffed by skilled and knowledgeable locals, the Brisbane Visitor Information and Booking Centre can provide advice on things to see, things to do and where to eat, and help with travel bookings.
The Queensland Information Centres Association (QICA) is the key industry body for Visitor and Tourist Information Centres in Queensland. There are currently 100 Centres who are members of QICA. Visitor Information Centres are on the frontline of tourism, and can often be the first contact for a visitor when arriving in a destination. With this vital role in mind, QICA provides services and benefits to members including:
• Annual Information Centre Conference;
• Annual Visitor Information Centre of the Year Awards;
• professional development and training;
• networking and communication opportunities;
• industry representation, lobbying and advocacy on behalf of Visitor Information Centres; and
• promotion of the role of Visitor Information Centres to tourism industry and the general public.
To raise the standard of information provision and acknowledge genuine visitor information providers, accreditation programs or policies have been developed across Australia and a yellow on blue italicised ‘i’ symbol has been trademarked to distinguish visitor information providers who achieve these standards.
After extensive consultation with industry and government, Tourism Queensland has developed the Queensland Visitor Information Centre Signage Policy. Only those visitor information centres that meet the eligibility criteria and standards of the Policy are authorised to use the italicised ‘i’ symbol. The branding assures visitors of high-quality information and professional standards from these centres.
