Population and employment

Workforce of the future
Over the past 20 years Brisbane has set the pace for population growth in Australia. Leading the way as one of the fastest-growing capital cities in the country, Brisbane has a projected population of 3.9 million by 2056. Now home to two million people, the Brisbane populace is young and skilled (the largest demographic group is the 25 to 54 age bracket); well-educated (14 per cent have bachelor degrees); and culturally-diverse (16 per cent of Brisbane households speak a foreign language at home). Thanks to a high level of skilled migration, Brisbane has embraced an international sophistication and inherited an exceptional talent pool that displays both depth and breadth.

New talent, new jobs for a new world city
Brisbane’s job market is growing at more than twice the rate of population growth and now accounts for 47 per cent of Queensland’s total jobs growth. Over the past decade, the city has sustained the fastest employment growth of all Australian capital cities, now employing more than one million people. Today, Brisbane exhibits the highest share of full-time jobs amongst Australian capital cities, with full-time employment accounting for 72.3 per cent of total employment.
