Permits

Please contact the Brisbane City Council Filming Approvals Liaison Office (FALO) to obtain filming permits.

The team at Brisbane City Council operate with a film-friendly philosophy to help facilitate your filming needs. The Filming Approvals team will work to provide quick turnaround on filming applications and information and assistance regarding filming in Brisbane. They encourage productions to contact them in the early stages of scouting or planning to ensure the most positive outcome.

There is a flat fee of $563.00 for a filming permit and this covers most permit requirements. Students undertaking an educational course where filming is for assessment purposes will be waived the fee.

The following activities all require approval through the FALO:
• closing or requiring use of public areas such as parks, malls, roadways and footpaths;
• having vehicle access to a public area such as a park, road or mall;
• using freestanding equipment such as lighting, generators, dolly tracks and tripods that could be a danger to the public or restrict public use of the area;
• leaving freestanding equipment unattended;
• having cables on the ground in a public area; and
• using equipment such as catering and changing facilities.

The following activities do not require approval from Brisbane City Council:
• film crew legally parking vehicles in the street and using the location setting as a backdrop with shoulder mounted cameras (except if filming in malls);
• filming solely within private property; and
• filming on a footway and not:
• using the footway for longer than 48 hours (except in the central business district and inner-city suburbs);
• fully obstructing the footway and not requiring pedestrians to move onto the road or take an alternative path; and
• on a main road or in the central business district.

Please do not hesitate to contact the FALO for advice on parking large vehicles such as trucks or any other film production associated activities.

For further information or to download a film permit application visit the Brisbane City Council website.

Please note: If you are filming outside of the Brisbane City Council area you will need to obtain permission from the appropriate council. For more information on council boundaries, please view the Greater Brisbane region map in the Places and maps section of our website.
