Incentives
The Queensland and Australian Governments offer a number of incentives, grants and schemes to produce films in Brisbane. These can be applied for directly through each relevant body.
Queensland Production incentives
The Queensland Government through Screen Queensland may offer development funding, incentives (a Payroll Tax Rebate and other labour-based incentives) and equity investment to long form productions. Please note that the provision of cash incentives is subject to sufficient funding being available at the time of application.
Screen Queensland also offers location assistance to long form projects by way of script breakdowns and shoot to order location presentations. Scouting assistance may also be available for your project.
For further information visit Screen Queensland.
Screen Australia incentives
The Producer Offset – offered through Screen Australia –is a tax-based incentive and is principally relative to goods and services provided in Australia. It is available to feature films at 40 per cent of qualifying expenditure and for all other formats at 20 per cent of qualifying expenditure as set out in the legislation and guidelines.
The two key elements of the Producer Offset are the ability of the applicant to show that the project has Significant Australian Content and passes the threshold and, if applicable, eligibility tests.
It is recommended that applicants make contact with the Offset Division of Screen Australia prior to making an application if there are any issues requiring further explanation. For further information visit www.screenaustralia.gov.au/producer_offset.
Screen Australia offer other industry support initiatives including project development programs, marketing support, production investment and Indigenous programs. For further information visit www.screenaustralia.gov.au/industry_support.
Federal Government incentives
The Federal Government also offers an incentive program for international screen production attraction. There are two Offsets offered to projects ineligible for the 40 per cent Producer Offset – the 15 per cent Location Offset and 15 per cent PDV Offset (administered by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet). These Offsets may not be combined with one another.
